Óscar Gutiérrez is popularly known by his ring name, Rey Mysterio. Rey is a Mexican-American professional wrestler signed into signed to WWE. Rey is very close to his uncle cum trainer Rey Misterio Sr. On his continuous motivation, Rey made his debut at the age of 14 years in Mexico on April 30, 1989. Rey is known to be very professional, but this has never stopped him from getting his body tattooed with his favorite designs. His tattoos are mostly family-oriented whereas most of them are religious ones too. Let us explore his inks and their meanings.

1. ‘619’ Tattoo
Tattoo: On Rey’s left forearm we can see the vertically inked numbers as, ‘619’.
Meaning: Rey was born in Chula Vista, California, United States. This number represents his area code. Some people also believe that this could also represent his finishing move known as Tiger Feint Kick used by Rey professionally inside the ring. Once in an interview Rey himself said that 619 represents himself, referring to his signature finishing move.
“It represents what I do and where I come from; it’s a big significance for me,” he said.
“I represent the 619.”
2. ‘1976’ and ‘1995’ Tattoo
Tattoo: Rey’s inner arms are inked with two years. On his right inner arm, we can see the ink of the year 1995 whereas on the left arm we can see the tattoo of the year 1976.
Meaning: 1995 is the year when Rey took to a brief stint in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) for the first time. Whereas the year 1976 represents the year when his uncle cum his trainer, Rey Misterio Sr debuted on 6 January 1976 on a show called “Day of the Kings”
3. ‘Angie’ Tattoo
Tattoo: On Rey’s left shoulder there is a name tattoo which says, ‘Angie’.
Meaning: The name on his shoulder represents the name of his beloved wife, Angie Gutierrez.
4. Back Tattoo
Tattoo: Rey’s back is completely covered in a design tattooed from his neck till his lower back.
Meaning: The tattoo is actually imagery of his own spine to show how each vertebra is strongly aligned. Rey said that every person gets to see downfall many a time in his life. Interestingly, many of the falls are also taken on their backs while performing professionally inside the ring. Thus, he wanted something a tattoo of his own spine to reflect that each vertebra has to be connected to be strong and it was something he found to be cool.
“I get credit for that from many people,” he said. “I haven’t seen it around or on pictures or in artwork; it comes from my years in this business.”
“eighty percent of the falls we take are on our backs,” he explained. “I thought it would be cool to design a tattoo on my spine showing how each vertebra should be aligned. Something I found cool is that when they filled it out on me, they said everything is pretty much as it should be. So it’s all pretty much in place.”
5. Green Patch Tattoo
Tattoo: On his left bicep there is a batch with a green star and two green V’s tattooed inside it.
6. ‘Dove Bird’ Tattoo
Tattoo: Rey has got a flying dove bird tattooed inside his left upper inner arm. There are few stars tattooed around Dove’s head and face.
Meaning: Dove birds are used to symbolize peace and love. They are the most common symbols of victory.

Tattoo: Rey once claimed that he would get no tattoos on his chest. However, this major ink proved his claims false when he got a masterpiece in lieu of his dedication to The Aztec civilization. The tattoo shows us the Aztec calendar, which was a 365-day calendar and was used for the agricultural rituals and seasons in Mexico.
Meaning: Rey’s love for Mexico and even the Mexican football team got him into getting this tattoo inked. He got this tattoo to represent his culture and his childhood connection with it.
Rey claimed, “That was the worst pain I’ve felt when it came to tattoos,” he admitted. “But that is to show my pride, my culture… and it’s very important to me. That’s who I am.”
8. ‘Cross’ Tattoo
Tattoo: On Rey’s left shoulder there lies a tattoo of his own mask. The tattoo also has the cross similar to the design of his own mask which also has a cross on its top head.
Meaning: Rey used to wear his mask always until the time he was unmasked in 1999 after he lost a tag-team match against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. The cross in the mask tells us about his religious beliefs pointing us towards Christianity.

Tattoo: On the backside of his neck, Rey has another cross tattoo.
Meaning: In an interview, Rey said that his strong faith in God and his blessings drew him towards getting such religious tattoos inked.
“On my neck I’ve got a cross with my birth date, and I had some tribal work added,” he continued. “That cross was the same cross Tupac had on his back.
10. Cross on Right Arm
Tattoo: On his right arm we can see another big cross tattoo. As already claimed by Rey, he is a very religious person and shares a great devotion towards God and his blessings. This is another of his ink dedicated to his faith and religious beliefs.

Tattoo: A very slight image can be seen of the crown inked on Rey’s upper inner arm.
12. ‘EG’ Tattoo
Tattoo: This one amazing tattoo on Rey’s left inner forearm shows a gothic cross with a tomb and letter, ‘EG’ inked inside it.
Meaning: Rey has got this tattoo as the tribute to his late friend, Eddie Guerrero. Rey has always said that this tattoo is very close to his heart, just like Eddie was. He was also an American Professional wrestler who died on 13 November 2005. Rey had a very close relationship with Eddie.
“On my left forearm, I’ve got a gothic cross with a tombstone in the center with the initials ‘E’ and ‘G’ for my friend, the late Eddie Guerrero.”

Rey never shared the relevance of this tattoo for him but he always said that this tribal design on his bicep with a red heart holds deep link with his life. 17. ‘MEXICAN’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is a word inked on Rey’s stomach which says, ‘MEXICAN’.
Meaning: Rey is a born American and Mexican-American professional wrestler. This tattoo is his love for his connection. He said that this was the only painful tattoo that he ever got. It relates to his upbringing, culture, and childhood lifestyle.

Tattoo: Rey’s left outer forearm is tattooed with the name, ‘Guerrero Latino‘. Rey got this ink as the tribute to Guerrero after his death of heart failure in November 2005. This is the second tattoo that Rey has got on his body as the tribute to his late friend. Rey was very close to Eddie.

Tattoo: On the left side of his stomach, Rey has a prayer tattooed. It says “Jesus Christ, you accompany me every day. I ask you to bless me and protect me every time I land on the mat because my life is always on the line. Never leave me alone. Protect me and be with me always. Amen.”
Meaning: This tattoo is actually the prayer that a pretty girl produced to Rey and told him she prays this to God every night for Rey. Out of love and regards for her, Rey got that prayer inked on the left side of his abdomen.
“I was at an autograph signing,” Mysterio explained with a smile. “A little girl gave me a collage that she made of me with a prayer on it. She said it was a prayer that she says for me every night.”
I wanted a fresh tattoo but couldn’t decide what to get. I read that little girl’s prayer every day and suddenly it hit me. That prayer is definitely the tattoo I want.”

“On my neck I’ve got a cross with my birth date, and I had some tribal work added,” he continued. “That cross was the same cross Tupac had on his back. In WCW, a few friends of mine decided to get it done together. It was to show how close we were.”

Tattoo: There is a skull inked on Rey’s right elbow.

“Well, I won’t get any more on my legs,” he laughed. “What I have on my left calf is two skeletons; when you put them together they form a heart and it says, ‘Love till Death.’ That represents me and my wife — till death do us part.”

Tattoo: In his post Rey revealed all of his hand tattoos together. There are symbols inked on his left hand’s fingers followed by kanji symbols on his right hand’s fingers. Not only this, his right and left hand’s top is inked with angel wings in shape of feathers.
