Alexandra Sholler, better known as Alison Wonderland, is an Australian DJ, singer, and electronic dance music producer. She rose to fame with her debut album, Run in 2015. Her second album, Awake peaked at no.1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums. She is also the highest billed female DJ in the history of Coachella.
Alison has many tiny tattoos all over her arms. Let us take a look at them and the meanings behind them.
1. ‘Rose and Eye’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The inside of her right forearm has a rose stick tattooed on it along with the letter, “M” beside it. There is also an eye tattooed on the inside of her right wrist along with the word, “graceland” near the eye.
Meaning: The tattoo of the eye on her wrist was done by herself and the word, “graceland” represents the name of one of her favorite albums, “Graceland” by Paul Simon. The “M” on her arm serves a dual purpose. It represents the name of her dog, Molly, and her own stage name, Wonderland when read upside down.
2. ‘Bird’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The inside of her right forearm also has a tiny swallow bird tattooed on it in red ink.
3. ‘Moon’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is a crescent moon tattooed on the inside of her right arm, near her elbow.
Meaning: The tattoo of the moon is a matching tattoo she got with DJ Hoodboi to represent their friendship.
4. ‘Calm Down’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The side of her right forearm also has the words, “CALM DOWN” tattooed on it in reverse.
Meaning: The tattoo represents the name of her first EP and also helps her with her anxiety.
5. ‘Key and Cloud’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is a key tattooed on Alison’s right bicep and a small cloud with raindrops tattooed on the inside of her right elbow.
6. ‘Alien, Container, and Number’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The side of her left forearm has an alien’s head tattooed on it. There is also a tiny container tattooed on the inner side of her left forearm with a tag that reads, “LEFT“. The roman number, “XXVII” is also tattooed on the inside of her left forearm.
Meaning: Alison got the tattoo of the alien head on her arm to represent her belief that aliens exist. She jokingly added that there might be a lot of aliens in the music industry too. The tattoo of the number on her arm represents 27, for her date of birth, 27 September 1986. The container is inspired by the Alice in Wonderland bottle that is labeled, “Drink Me” in the books. She added the tag that says, “LEFT” to distinguish her left and right as she confuses them often.
7. ‘Eye and Tiger’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The inside of her left forearm also has another eye tattooed on it with three lines hanging from it. There is also a face of a tiger tattooed just below her left elbow.
Meaning: The tattoo of the tiger on her arm represents one of her albums.
8. ‘Pineapple’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is also a pineapple tattooed on the inside of her left forearm.
Meaning: There is a funny story behind this tattoo. Her manager bet her to get a pineapple tattooed on her body if her debut album, Run made any nominations at all. She agreed and when the album got several nominations, she kept her promise and got the pineapple tattooed.
9. ‘Heart’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is a heart tattooed on the back of her left upper arm that is pierced by an arrow. The name, Molly is also tattooed inside the heart.
Meaning: This is another tattoo that she has to show her love for her dog, Molly.
10. ‘Eye’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is an anime character’s eye tattooed on the right side of her body.
Meaning: Alison posted this tattoo on her story revealing the tattoo. There is another tattoo behind the emoji in this photo. Alison said that it is one of the most embarrassing tattoos on her body. It is a stick and a poke pointing towards the Graceland tattoo on her right wrist.
11. ‘LA and Quote’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The letters, “LA” are tattooed on the side of her right foot. The quote, “DANCE YRSELF CLEAN” is also tattooed on the side of her foot near the letters.
Meaning: The tattoo of the quote on her foot is a tribute tattoo to the LCD Soundsystem frontman, James Murphy whom she credits for her style of lyrical writing.
12. ‘T’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The letter, “T” is tattooed on the singer’s right foot too.
Meaning: The tattoo of the letter “T” represents her love for TNGHT (pronounced Tonight) which is a musical duo of Hudson Mohawk and Lunice. She talked about having a second TNGHT tattoo on her body too but it has not been revealed by her yet.
