The History of Molon Labe
Contents (Click to Jump)
The phrase “Molon Labe” is an Ancient Greek one that has been used throughout history and is originally attributed to Greek historian Herodotus in his “Histories”, in which he recounts the history of Ancient Greece. Many people do not realize that the phrase originated all that long ago since it has been used so many times throughout history. While most people know that the phrase is Greek, they don’t realize that its origins are thousands of years old.
It was Leonidas who is credited with saying this at the Battle of Thermopylae to the Persian emperor Xerxes. Traditionally, it translates to “Come and take them”, a testament to the fact that an army will not surrender and must persevere until the end. This Molon Labe tattoo meaning is very appropriate since it assures no matter what happens you will remain steadfast. These statements are proudly worn by many people because they feel this description defines them.
The gun rights movement has more recently been spearheaded by American gun and weapons advocates who support the right of civilians to bear arms. The Texas Revolution of the early 19th century saw the settlers use the term officially as well. Since the Molon Labe tattoo is a very powerful statement of how you feel and the words are so powerful, I think anyone who is a strong supporter of the American Constitution would be very happy with it.
Molon Labe is typically accompanied by symbols of the United States such as the stars and stripes, or by the Statue of Liberty and an image of a firearm in the case of gun advocates from the United States. Additional details emphasize the common understanding of the second amendment to the Bill of Rights, denoting the right to bear arms. This additional imagery isn’t necessary to convey the Molon Labe tattoo meaning, but it can serve two functions: show outside observers that the owner is an American, and it can help to frame the meaning for those who have not come across such a tattoo before.
Meaning Of Molon Labe Tattoo Designs
War and battle are the most common examples of the phrase, which confidently challenges the opposing force to go forward in a fight. In this way, a Molon Labe tattoo is more than just a symbol of the right to bear arms. If it means the owner believes in their side in a battle, it can mean they believe in their abilities. Military personnel often get the tattoo, and those who have been in the military can find it on their bodies.
By making a claim, one is being assertive about one’s chances of winning while challenging others to do the same. Molon Labe tattoos are usually used among military personnel to signal their willingness to counterattack and disregard for their opponent. The phrase on these tattoos can be a motivator for this phrase’s owners so that they are motivated to keep fighting and not be afraid of anything.
Those words are both a taunt and a warning not to underestimate this ancient adversary. Although Molon Labe tattoos are incredibly popular among gun enthusiasts when this meaning is used every person can get the tattoo. It’s not uncommon for gang members to get the Molon Labe tattoo so that others around them know that they are not to be interfered with.
“Come and take them,” is what Molon Labe means in English. Those two words alone were all the Spartans needed to proclaim their defiance to a massive army and to stand their ground. The Molon Labe tattoo has this characteristic, which is why it’s an ideal tattoo design for someone with a daring personality.
A great many of the people who get this tattoo design want to express their rebellious or defiant nature. Molon Labe (“come and take them”) is a phrase often used by proud gun owners and patriots to express their defiance toward gun confiscation, a problem Americans have faced since the American Revolution.
Today, gun confiscation is one of the most commonly proposed solutions to decrease gun violence, but gun rights advocates are refusing to accommodate that idea. In the US Constitution, the Second Amendment explicitly states, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged.” Hence, Molon Labe has gained popularity with gun activists who would like to stand up to the government to maintain their rights to bear arms.
In addition to gym rats and athletes, Molon Labe is also popular. In terms of their interpretation, Molon Labe represents less rebellion against authority and more defiance towards the limitations of the human body-overcoming obstacles and pushing forward to greatness.
This tattoo design is the perfect one for you if you are passionate about defying odds and going above and beyond your self-imposed limitations. A great piece of writing that is short and compelling, and is backed up by plenty of excellent history.
Ideas for Molon Labe Tattoo Designs
Molon Labe tattoos come in several variations, each of which has its advantages. These are just a few examples of the Molon Labe tattoo we have seen in recent weeks. If you don’t want to use any of these ideas you probably have a creative streak in you, but these are some of the most popular ones as of late.
Molon Labe with Guns Tattoo
It is common to see rifles or other guns crossing each other in the background of the phrase, giving it the appearance of a crest. In addition to the outline or shape of Texas, this phrase can also be illustrated highlighting its use during the Revolution. Both the owners of the Molon Labe tattoos and the history of the phrase are passionate about the second amendment in these cases. People from Texas would find the Texas outline even more personable.
Molon Labe with Greek Letters Tattoo
A typical tattoo depicting the phrase Molon Labe is in Greek letters; this is the way the phrase originated. Many designs feature helmets that are based on ancient Greek or Spartan designs to emphasize their original context. Greek Army Corps also use the phrase, which has been widely used and accepted throughout Western cultures because of the profundity of the meaning.
To emphasize the history of the phrase, the Molon Labe font is sometimes rendered as if it were ancient and worn, or even as if carved into stone. Because Molon Labe tattoos are just letters in words, changing the font makes for an exceptionally unique tattoo. Some people might opt to use the classic Greek letters for this tattoo because it is such a popular military tattoo, showing that they share a special bond with other people who have the same tattoo.
This tattoo is often paired with a picture of a Spartan helmet, spear, or shield, further enhancing the Greek theme. These ancient symbols represent Greece and the warriors who defended the country, so it is only appropriate to add these images to the crest to create a more powerful symbol. Even the movie “300,” which is about the Spartans, refers to this translated phrase. It is pertinent to address each of these.
Molon Labe and Snake Tattoo
Combining a Molon Labre tattoo with a snake is a great pairing of images. It is a symbol that has been used since the American revolution that depicts a coiled rattlesnake and the words “Don’t tread on me”. 1775 was the year Christopher Gadsden assigned this as a designation. He was honored with the creation of a flag based on his image. Also, the Continental Marines used this flag as an early motto flag. The two images represent keeping what is yours rather than taking it away.
It is obvious, from what we just said, that Molon Labe tattoos have quite a bit of meaning for many people who get them. Typically, it’s a simple tattoo to get, but it’s also something that most owners are extremely proud of.
Fortunately, there are a lot of artists you can choose from if you want to ensure your safety and comfort. Moreover, make sure to ask the tattoo artist for a consultation so you can plan out every detail of the tattoo. In a shorthand version, here’s how Canon came to design its flag. Texans were presented with this canon in 1831 by the Mexican government. They were able to repel raids by the Comanche thanks to it. A few years later, the Mexican government decided that giving these settlers such a weapon wasn’t a good idea and demanded it is returned. They wrote to the Mexican government to inform them that they would not be receiving the cannon back. In the letter, it also stated that if they wanted it back, they would have to “come and take it”. Approximately 100 Mexican troops were sent to Gonzales to capture a flag that carried the same words that the Mexican government had been given. It became the battle cry of the Texas militia that fought against the Mexicans with about 150 men. As for the cannon, no one knows what happened to it, since it was almost lost to history.

Is there a second flag that we see sometimes? A flag bearing the words “Come and take it” and a cannon. Does this refer to the same thing technically? Yet Leonidas’s words are timeless, and just by saying them, one can imagine a time when brave men in the face of death would hold up a flag with a cannon and say, “Come and take it.” There is a flag in Texas that dates back to the Texas Revolution or the Texas War of Independence called the Gonzales flag. Between 1835 and 1836, there was a war between Mexican authorities and the Texas colonists known as the Battle of Gonzalez. It resulted in the establishment of the Texas Republic. As king Leonidas’ flag reflects his resistance, its significance has been overlooked.

As a personal opinion, I believe that our freedom and liberty areas are threatened by tyrants or tyrannical governments as they were over 1300 years ago. The two words can be found on numerous accessories and clothing, signs, flags, banners, bumper stickers, t-shirts, books, and even firearms. Let’s first learn how to translate them correctly. Translating the two words into English, it means “come and take it”. The Ancient Greek phrase Molon Labe is a combination of two words that means to come and take. In addition, they would not use a conjunction like “and” at the end either since Greek grammar did not recognize conjunctions like “and.” The words “come” and “take” could be used without conjunctions.
-
Flawless Molon Labe Tattoo Design On Arm
In some instances, the phrase can be implied by the content, such as if I was holding a soda and you asked me to give it up forcefully, you could simply say, “come take it.” In light of the meaning implied by the two verbs and given the context of the situation, I already understood your intention, so the implied meaning of “and” and “it” cannot be retained, so “Come and Take” is the literal translation. It’s time to examine when and who said it.

Excelling Molon Labe Tattoo Design On Arm
The words Molon Labe were used by King Leonidas of Sparta and King Xerxes of Persia before the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. Sparta’s moral and tactical victory nevertheless was great for its citizens. People of Sparta had some time to evacuate to Salamis islands several days before the attack. Greeks earlier defeated the Persians in the Battle of Salamis and subsequently crushed them in the Battle of Plataea a year later.

Allen West Molon Labe Tattoo Design On Arm
Allen West, another conservative political commentator as well as a former Florida Congressman, has got a new tattoo on his right forearm that reads “Molon Labe”. It’s said that when King Leonidas was ordered by the Persian emperor Xerxes to lay down his weapons at Thermopylae and turn in honorability and surrender, Leonidas said, “Molon Labe,” that is Greek for “Come and take [them].”
During the Texas revolution, this phrase was a popular motto and is now printed on t-shirts for gun rights activists. The popular Greek legend has always been an inspiration to Mr. West’s comparison between modern politics and the popular Greek legend. As a testament to his absolute belief in the right to keep and bear arms, he wore it on his bare arm. This indicates that he firmly believes in the right of people to possess weapons (arms) for their defense.

Molon Labe Tattoo FAQs
Do you know what Molon Labe means?
Molon Labe is an ancient Greek expression that means “come and take (them)”. In firearms communities and among those committed to the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms, this term is commonly used. The symbol appears on the emblem of the first Greek Army Corps, and in the US, it is incorporated into the Special Operations Command Center model.
In 480 BC, King Leonidas of Sparta reportedly spoke these powerful and timeless words to King Xerxes of Persia right before the Battle of Thermopylae. Sparta’s small army lay down their weapons whenever King Xerxes ordered them to. “Molon Labe!” replied the Spartan King. Spartans were defeated in this battle, and all of the 300 Thespians and Thebans who stayed behind to fight along with King Leonidas were killed. King Leonidas’ corpse was beheaded by the Persians after he was found dead.
Although the Greeks were massacred in this battle, Sparta and its citizens have achieved victory on a moral and tactical level. There was ample time to evacuate to Salamis after the original evacuation deadline. During the Battle of Salamis, the Greeks would further defeat the Persians, while a year later at the Battle of Plataea, they had rendered them ineffective. Plutarch, a priest, and biographer compiled a book of 70 essays that represents the famous words of King Leonidas.
Therefore, in what ways do these bold words still, hold value today? Freedom and liberty are threatened today by tyrannical governments in the same way as they were then. Firearms and gun enthusiasts, and supporters of the 2nd Amendment to the constitution, the right to bear arms, have made this their battle cry. A recent article states that “Molon Labe”, the word gun owners use when gun control comes up, is a slogan. Even though this is a controversial and deadly issue, they won’t be intimidated or cowed by the tyrants who get their right to bear arms.
