Marcin Gortat’s 5 Tattoos & Their Meanings

Marcin Janusz Gortat is a polish retired professional basketball player. He was drafted in 2005 by the Phoenix Suns and has also represented  Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers. The player officially retired in February of 2020.

1. ‘Eagle and Monument’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The left pec of the athlete has a tattoo of a giant eagle on it, sitting next to a monument. There is also a shield tattooed with the eagle.

Meaning: The tattoo is a cover-up of the portrait he had of his father on his chest. The tattoo of the eagle represents the Coat of Arms of Poland standing next to the monument of Tadeusz Kosciuszko in his hometown of Łódź.

2. ‘Hammer’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The left shoulder and upper arm of the player has a tattoo of a hammer on it. The hammer is seen cracking open through his arm and has a skull on its handle.

Meaning: The tattoo of the hammer on his arm is another cover-up of his goblin tattoo.

3. ‘Eagle’ Tattoo

Tattoo: There is another tiny eagle tattooed on the inside of his right forearm with the word, “Machine” tattooed below it and two more words above it.

4. Back Tattoo

Tattoo: Marcin’s back also has an interesting tattoo on it. The right side of his upper back has a tattoo of a giant egg hatching with a bird peeking through it.

5. Jordan Tattoo

Tattoo: The side of his right lower leg has a tattoo of a basketball’s outline on it with the Jordan logo on it. The tattoo is one of his earliest ones.

Meaning: The tattoo made huge limelight in the late 2000s after the player was drafted. The tattoo was the logo for Jordan but at the time, Marcin was signed with Reebok who did not like it.
