Mat Fraser’s 5 Tattoos & Their Meanings

Mathew Fraser better known by his nickname Mat is a retired Canadian-American professional CrossFit athlete. His career extended over the span of six long years, i.e. from 2014 to 2020. Mat has outstanding victory records in his cap. This relates to his five consecutive victories for CrossFit Games titles, consecutively from the year 2016-2020. Tattoo: There is a huge tattoo that covers the complete area of his chest. It is highlighted as the skull of the goat. He got it inked from the tattoo artist, Antonio, who is also a Crossfit fan and owns a tattoo shop in Milano City.

Meaning: Goat skull is linked to the mortality of humans and death. It represents courage and fearlessness in the face of death and danger. As per Christian belief, the goat skull is also assumed to be the symbol of witchery and bad omens.

“CrossFit is how I’ve met my best friends, business partners, and even my wife. CrossFit is how I found the artist who tattooed my chest, how I was able to travel across the world, and how I bought the home we’ll soon move into in Vermont.”

3. ‘Portrait of Ladies’ Tattoo

Tattoo: There are two portraits inked on Mat’s right shoulder. It is speculated that the portraits represent a similar face and it might be of his fiance’s. Her name is Sammy Moniz.

4. ‘Serenity Prayer’ Tattoo

Tattoo: Mat’s left bicep is inked with few lines. The lines actually represent a prayer that says, ‘Serenity Prayer—“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”.

Meaning: Fraser said that he got this prayer inked because it lets him keep control over himself and calmly accept all those things which he cannot control.

“It’s the serenity prayer. It reminds me to control what I can and accept that I can’t control everything.”
