Oleksandr Usyk’s 7 Tattoos & Their Meanings

Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Usyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer. He is the undisputed cruiserweight champion, being the only one in the world to have dominated  WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and WBO titles simultaneously. He has also won gold medals at the 2011 World Championship and the 2012 Olympics. Usyk gave up his titles in 2019 and moved up to the heavyweight category. 1. ‘Castle’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The right shoulder of the boxer contains a tattoo of a castle on it. There is a dark sky above the castle with lightning bolts striking it. A falcon is also flying in front of the castle with its wings spread on his upper right arm.

Meaning: The tattoo covers up his previous tattoo of a tiny boxer tattooed on his shoulder right next to an emblem of the coat of arms of Ukraine. The falcon on his arm goes along with the coat of arms as it is a white gyrfalcon that is considered a royal bird and also an inspiration for the coat of arms emblem.

2. ‘Statue and Emblem’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The back of his arm contains a statue tattooed on it with both his arms raised. His right one has a sword in it and the left one contains a shield. The shield also has an emblem tattooed on it. There is a face of a sculpture tattooed below the statue too.

Meaning: The tattoo of the statue represents a warrior and Oleksandr’s love for his country. The shield that the warrior is carrying bears the coat of arms of Ukraine.

3. ‘Rings’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The inner side of his right forearm has a tattoo of the Olympic rings on it. The word, “Beijing” is tattooed above the rings and the year 2008 is tattooed below the rings.

Meaning: The tattoo of the Olympic rings on his forearm represents his appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Oleksandr won the silver medal there for his country. There is another tattoo featuring the Olympic rings on his body too.

Tattoo: The left shoulder and upper arm of the boxer is covered in a multicolored design tattoo. There are some fish that can be seen followed by some patterns on the bottom.

Tattoo: Oleksandr’s right bicep has the name, “Єлизавета” tattooed on it adorned with swirly lines making a crown above the name. His left bicep also has the name, “Кириллъ” tattooed on it along with a similar pattern of lines surrounding it.

Meaning: The names on his arms are tattooed in Russian. The name on his right bicep is, Yelyzaveta (Elizabeth in English), which is the name of his beloved daughter. The name on his left bicep is Kyrill, the name of his son.

6. ‘Olympic’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The left forearm of the boxer contains another tattoo of the Olympic rings on it. The Olympic rings also have a map outline below it with the word, “London” tattooed on the outline.

Meaning: The tattoo on his left forearm celebrates his victory at the 2012 London Olympics where Oleksandr won the gold medal by defeating Italy’s Clemente Russo.

Tattoo: The back of the boxer contains a large tattoo of an angel on the left side. The angel has large wings and is carrying a staff with a flower on it.

Meaning: The tattoo on Usyk’s back of the angel is a Seraph as they are the ones who carry staffs with flowers. The tattoo of the angel on his back acts as a guardian angel looking over him and his family.
