Yasmani Grandal’s 9 Tattoos & Their Meanings

Yasmani Grandal is a Cuban-American professional baseball catcher. He plays in the Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Milwaukee Brewers. He started out playing for the University of Miami and has also represented the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. Grandal has many interesting tattoos on his body. Tattoo: The right forearm of the catcher contains a tattoo of an intricate skeleton of a man, wearing a suit and a hat. He is holding a lit candle in his hands. There is also a tattoo of two rose flowers just below the skeleton tattoo.

2. ‘Cross and Baseball’ Tattoos

Tattoo: There backside of his right upper arm contains a tattoo of a cross with cracks on it. There is also a tattoo of a baseball merged with the Cross with the letter, U tattooed on the ball.

Meaning: Yasmani visits the church every Sunday and baseball is a game very close to his heart. So he got a tattoo that included both aspects of his life. He got the letter “U” on the baseball tattoo for his college, the University of Miami as it is a local tradition.

3. ‘Chinese Word’ Tattoo

Tattoo: Yasmani’s left bicep contains the Chinese letters, “天蝎座” tattooed on it.

Meaning: The Chinese letters, 天蝎座 stand for Scorpio which is the sun sign of the baseball player. It is also his first tattoo which he got at the age of 18.

Tattoo: The upper right arm of the catcher contains a large tattoo of a Scorpion in chains, some of which are intact and some are broken. The rest of his arm is completed by tattoos of rose flowers, spheres around his wrist, faded flames and skulls all done in the background.

Meaning: The scorpion represents him and the chains represent his goals. While talking about the tattoo he explained how he had achieved some of his goals and how some are still to be achieved.

Meaning: The map outline is of the Island of Cuba. Yasmani got the tattoo to represent his Cuban Heritage. Both of his brothers also have matching tattoos.

6. ‘Tasmanian Devil’ Tattoo

Tattoo: You might recognize it as the character of Taz from the Looney Tunes. Yasmani has got a tattoo of the Tazmanian Devil on the inner side of his left forearm. The character is also wearing the gear of a baseball catcher.

Meaning: The tattoo is a hint towards his nickname which his wife used for him and it stuck with the fans. Yasmani is known as the Tasmanian Devil and he liked the nickname so much that he decided to get a tattoo of the same wearing the gear of a baseball catcher to represent himself.

Meaning: Yasmani’s name was hard to pronounce for some of his coaches and teachers while growing up so he was called Yaz by everyone while growing up and the name stuck. Yasmani got the name tattooed on his back along with the angry eyes to show that he’s always looking everyone in the eye.
