Titus B. Welliver is an American actor. He is best known for his role as The Man in Black in the drama series, Lost. He has also appeared as Silas Adams in Deadwood and Jimmy in Sons of Anarchy. He is also the protagonist in the TV series Bosch. He started his career in 1990 and has appeared in many films over the years as well. This article is dedicated to Titus’ body tattoos and the meanings that each one of them holds for him.
Titus has many interesting inks on his body. He shared his views about tattoos when he was younger, saying,
“When I was a kid, I saw people with tattoos by and large as out-laws, old sailors, and bikers. People now, however, are no longer negatively stigmatized by having tattoos. It’s a form of self-expression. Some people choose to have them where people can’t see them, and it’s still considered self-expression. So it’s really dramatically changed. Growing up, I believe tattooing was even illegal in certain states.”
1. Design Tattoo-Martial Arts Dojo
Tattoo: On his right shoulder, Titus has got a tattoo of a pair of Koi fish circling the rock.
Meaning: The tattoo represents his martial arts dojo. The two koi fishes represent strength and fluidity.
Koi Fish is the ultimate symbol of perseverance and a very common way among tattoo lovers to show and mark the hard times of life that the tattoo wearer might have undergone in their past or are undergoing right now in life.
2. Surfer Tattoo
Tattoo: Below the koi fish tattoo is a tattoo of a comic book character.
His right upper arm has a tattoo of the silver surfer from the Marvel comics. The Silver Surfer is a humanoid alien with metallic skin who has the ability to travel with the help of a surfboard cum craft throughout space.
There is also a flower tattooed on Titus’ right bicep and a few words on the right side of his body.
3. Horse Tattoo
Tattoo: His right arm also has a tattoo of an outline of a horse on it. The words, “So it goes…” are also tattooed above the Horse.
Meaning: This horse tattoo represents the Horse from Deftones’ (American band) third studio album ‘White Pony.’
However, just for your information, the Horse is the symbol of freedom and strength.
4. ‘Cats and Weapons’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The upper part of the actor’s right forearm has a tattoo of three wildcats on it. The first one is the head of a lion. The second one is the face of a tiger, and the third one is the face of a bobcat.
The side of his right forearm has a tattoo of a closed fist, followed by a stick, a revolver, and a knife.
Meaning: The tattoo of the animals on his arm is one of many on his body. The face of the lion was later covered up by a rose flower, as you can see in the image below.
The tattoo of a rose is symbolic of love, romance, and affection.
5. ‘Bear and Wolf’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The inside of the actor’s right forearm has the face of a bear tattooed on it. The letters “NTBFW” are also tattooed on his arm. There is a tattoo of a wolf on the inside of his right wrist as well.
The words “Lone Wolf” are written above the wolf. The words “EWA 030305 CBW” are also tattooed in between the bear and the wolf.
Meaning: The tattoo of the bear represents courage and endurance. The tattoo of the letters “NTBFW” represents the slang, “Not to be fucked with.” The wolf represents loyalty and his love for his family.
NAME OF HIS SON: The letters “EWA” represent the name of his son, Eamonn Lorcan Charles Welliver.
NAME OF HIS DAUGHTER: And the letters “CBW” represent his daughter’s name, Cora McBride Walling Welliver.
DATE OF BIRTH OF CHILDREN: The numbers 030305 represent the date of birth of Titus’ children.
6. Record Tattoo
Tattoo: The back of his right upper arm also has a tattoo of an old 45 rpm record on it with a yellow symbol.
That “yellow symbol” associated with 7″45 records is an adaptor that was snapped into the large hole in the center of the record so it could be played on a 33rpm spindle. They were made out of plastic. Titus got this ink to mark this memory.
7. ‘Star’ Tattoo
Tattoo: There is a tattoo of a blue and black star on the actor’s right wrist below the bobcat’s head.
Meaning: The tattoo of the star represents bravery and a good direction in life. Stars are believed to be the universal symbol of direction and guidance.
8. ‘Words’ Tattoo-Left Shoulder
Tattoo: There are a few words tattooed on the actor’s left shoulder with the formula “E=MC^2”.
9. ‘Indian, Buffalo, and Silhouette’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The left upper arm of the actor has a tattoo of an Indian Chief on it. The words “EST. 1962” are also tattooed next to it. There is a buffalo tattooed above his elbow with the words “In us, we trust” tattooed above it. The left forearm of the actor has a silhouette of a dog on it too.
Meaning: The tattoo of the Indian chief on his arm represents his native American heritage. The date near the Indian represents his date of birth, 12 March 1962.
10. ‘Stag and Star’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The left forearm of the actor has a tattoo of a star tattooed on it inside a circle. The star is also surrounded by handprints. There is also a stag tattooed on his left forearm, below the star tattoo, and the word “EDGE” is tattooed on his left wrist.
11. Symbols Tattoo
Tattoo: The side of the actor’s left forearm has a line of symbols tattooed on it consisting of eyes, arrows, and hearts.
Meaning: The tattoo of the symbols represents the words, “I’ll eat you up I love you so.”
12. ‘Eagle’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The inside of his left forearm also has a tattoo of an American Bald Eagle on it.
Meaning: The tattoo of the eagle represents American Culture. Though an eagle as the tattoo choice symbolizes freedom, independence, and the urge to soar high in life.
13. ‘Flag’ Tattoo
Tattoo: The inside of his left wrist has a tattoo of an Orange, White, and Green colored flag on it. There is also a heart with a crown over it surrounded by two hands tattooed above the flag.
Meaning: The tattoo of the flag on his wrist is the flag of Ireland to represent his Irish heritage. The design of the heart and the crown is known as the Claddagh Ring. The Claddagh Ring is a traditional Irish ring that has three parts, the hands representing friendship, the heart representing love, and the crown representing loyalty.
Titus has a few more tattoos on his body that he has talked about, but they have not been revealed in any photos yet.
